Michael's interests in school focused on English, creative writing, film studies, art, basketball, and lunch.

Mike was always great with kids and was idolized and adored by his younger cousins. He also worked with kids as a camp counselor during the summers.

Michael was very passionate, self critical, and socially conscious. Like many of his peers, Michael's idealism was challenged by his surrounding social climate. This struggle was reflected in the "Hardcore" punk music that he played and the eclectic mix of bands that he listened to.

Mike's desire to excel as an athlete began to shape the choices that he made as he began down the unforgiving road towards professional sports.
